Sherman M4A1 er den viktigste amerikanske middels tanken fra andre verdenskrig. Produsert i årene 1942-1945, ble den den mest gjenkjennelige amerikanske tanken. Under krigen ble den dynamisk utviklet. Den var utstyrt med en 75 mm kanon. Ammunisjonen og den brennbare motoren gjorde Shermans i utgangspunktet til et lett mål for de tyngre tyske stridsvognene. Først etter at konstruksjonen var finpusset, kunne rollene snus. Totalt ble omtrent 49 000 av alle versjoner av Sherman produsert. Tanken ble brukt blant annet av hæren til USA, Storbritannia, Polen, Frankrike og USSR. Den hadde et rykte som en pålitelig, lett å produsere og godt bevæpnet tank.

The M4 Sherman is the main American medium tank from the Second World War. Produced in the years 1942-1945, it became the most recognizable American tank. During the war, it was dynamically developed. It was equipped with a 75 mm cannon. The ammunition and the flammable engine made the Shermans initially an easy target for the heavier German tanks. Only after the construction was refined, the roles could be reversed. A total of approximately 49,000 of all versions of the Sherman were produced. The tank was used, among others by the army of the USA, Great Britain, Poland, France and the USSR. It had a reputation as a reliable, easy-to-manufacture and well-armed tank.
