B-24 Liberator History:
The Consolidated B -24 Liberator was designed with the high aspect -ratio Davis Wing. Incombat, the winghad drawbacks as far as durability was concerned, but it increased fuel efficiency and gavethe B-24 a longerrange than the Boeing B -17 Flying Fortress. On December 29, 2014, the Consolidated B -24Liberator, one ofthe most famous bombers of World War II, turned 75 years old. More than 18,400 of thistype were built, makingit the most produced American wartime aircraft. It gained a distinguishe d war record withoperations in the European,Pacific, African and Middle Eastern theaters. It followed in the footsteps of the other greatAmerican WW II bomber,the B-17. The B-24 brought about the following improvements over the B-17:
A longerrange.
A higher top speed.
A heavier bomb load.
Tricycle landing gear.
A quantum leap in wing design andperformance
The B-24J was produced in greater numbers than any other series and was the only versionproduced in all five plants.In the San Diego plant, it went from producing the D straight to the J. The maindifference between the D -CO and the J -COwas the addition of the Consolidated A -6A nose turret, which was almost identical to the tailturret. Other defensive armamentincluded the Martin A-3C upper turret, Briggs A-13 ball turret and flexible 0.50 caliber machine guns at the openwindow waistpositions. A total of 6,678 B-24Js were built.
More B-24s were built than any other American airplane. It edged out the B -17 on mostperformance cr iteria (speed, range, bombload).Its crewmen claimed 2,600 enemy aircraft shot down. With its great range, it performedanti-sub work in the Atlantic and heavy bombersupport in the Pacific.

Straight from the factory, the VQ B-24 features prototypical styled Roll-Up bomb bay doors. These can be set open or closed between missions, without needing servos to operate them. If modeler wishes to make the doors servo operated,
All four (4) gun turrets come with scale machine guns, and are operable by servo function straight out of the box!
Waist gunner positions even have the B-24 air/wind deflectors and waist guns!
