Chassis
The all-new T4`17 chassis was redesigned to fit the all-new inline chassis flex system. The new design of the chassis now allows the mounting of the new servo holder into the absolute center of the chassis, ensuring perfect balance. The chassis features new pre-drilled holes for the new centering pins of the servo holder, which helps to ensure that the servo will not move even under hard impacts or collisions. The all-new chassis also includes new positions for the alu steering posts of the dual servo saver, resulting in new Ackermann positions to make the car even easier to drive. To guarantee perfectly- equal chassis flex characteristics, the motor cutouts are now milled on both left and right sides.
The ultra-narrow chassis is only 86 mm wide and with a variety of chassis flex adjustments generates the exceptional traction and gives excellent steering characteristics. The new chassis design helps the T4`17 to be suitable for all track conditions. The 2.2 mm thick chassis is CNC-machined from premium-grade graphite material. The chassis features pre-drilled holes for optional parts such as chassis weights, graphite motor guard, graphite adjustable battery holder, and battery strap. Weight distribution and balance characteristics were all primary design considerations while engineering the new car to allow the weight to be moved as close as possible to the chassis centerline in order to maintain optimal balance.
In-Line Chassis Flex
The all-new XRAY In-Line Chassis Flex is one of the most significant and important improvements of the T4`17. This new adjustability is very intelligent and is an extremely helpful set-up feature that helps to adjust chassis flex for various track conditions. With the all-new servo mount and motor mount design, the new chassis reinforcement graphite brace can be installed in 5 different flex adjustment configurations. The stiffer the In-Line chassis flex is set, the better the steering response as well as in-corner steering.
Central Servo Mount
The new central servo mount is now mounted to the chassis using 3 screws and 2 centering pins (which are inserted into the chassis and into the graphite servo holder to help to eliminate servo movement in hard impacts or collisions). The Swiss 7075 T6 central servo mount is now positioned in the absolute center of the chassis for perfectly-balanced flex characteristics. The central servo mount also includes an extra hole for the in-line chassis reinforcement brace. The servo mount includes an extra hole where the battery backstop screw can be mounted, allowing adjustment for battery width.
Floating Steering System
The all-new, unique floating servo holder is now standard in the T4`17. The floating steering system is disconnected from the chassis and works fully independently without affecting flex. This makes the car easier to drive in high-traction conditions, and chassis roll is reduced especially when driving through the curbs. The car also handles better on bumpy tracks. In combination with #302570 Steering Plate, you can adjust 4 different flex characteristics. Using the graphite steering plate, chassis flex is medium; when using the steering plate with aluminum stand, flex becomes stiffer for more aggressive handling and increased steering. Thanks to the unique design of the servo holder, changing the flex of the steering system is quick & easy. There is no need for other parts, and there is no need to assemble/disassemble the servo holder.
Ackermann
The dual-arm steering system was moved 1mm further back on the chassis to give better Ackermann adjustment possibilities. The new Ackermann positions make the car easier to drive and control, especially in high-traction conditions.
Graphite Arms
The graphite suspension arms generate more overall traction, making the car easier to drive and increasing stability. It is no surprise that they have been long-term used by factory team drivers as well as regular customers in numerous different track conditions. The new T4`17 now includes graphite suspension arms as standard parts, providing the best available performance straight out of the box. The specially-formulated graphite composite material results in a very lightweight suspension arm that can withstand the rigors of high-performance racing. Features include a single optimized shock mounting position and integrated anti-roll bar mounts. The graphite arm is same size and geometry as the standard 1-hole suspension arms. The graphite arms include 4 holes to quickly and easily mount optional graphite reinforcement plates.
Layshaft Bulkheads
The all-new layshaft and motor mount bulkheads are now part of the Top Deck Flex adjustment. The new bulkheads are 1mm lower which allows better flex characteristics of the car as the top deck does not touch the bulkheads if screws are not used. If the screws on the layshaft bulkheads are used, shims are inserted between the bulkheads and top deck. This new system allows flex adjustment to help set up the car for any track conditions.
Motor Mount
The T4`17 motor mount plate has an all-new design and concept. The new motor mount plate - which is part of the motor mount - features a new extra hole for In-Line Chassis Flex adjustment. The motor mount plate is connected to the chassis via an M3 nut and an extra countersunk screw that can be placed ahead of the nut if more reinforcement is needed. Additionally, the nut can be removed and 1 of 2 holes behind the nut can be used as extra flex adjustment options. The motor mount bulkhead is connected to the chassis by 2 screws under the layshaft and the front mounting screw is now positioned more frontwards ahead of the motor. The front mounting screw is a button-head type which is more tweak-free compared to a countersunk screw.
